“SILENT MEMORY” COLLECTION INSPIRATION

The Fall Winter 2013/14 SILENT MEMORY  Collection was inspired by the traditions of peasants from Northern Transilvania (The Maramures Region in Romania) and the various ways in which people in a traditional culture relate to their environment, past and present, body and spirit, old and young.  With details and shapes inspired from the Romanian old wooden churches, old rugs and the traditional woolen coats worn by shepherds, this collection reflects a duality between a very constructed, tailored look and the softer and more natural shapes.

INSPIRATION BOARDS

THE INSPIRATION BEHIND FALL WINTER 2012/13

The minimalist architecture and urban landscapes photographed by German artist Matthias Heiderich are really inspiring to me. His very painterly photographs are images of urban, suburban and especially industrial regions that, despite their close ties to society, are often devoid of people. This context might suggest that the images are grey and melancholic  –  quite the contrary, they are images of color and contrast.

His recordings of shape, color and contradiction translate  in our collection through the sharp silhouettes, juxtapositions of fabrics and leather as well as the use of bold colors.

Here are a few Matthias Heiderich images next to my designs:
