After completing a degree in Fashion Design at the University of Art in Romania, Camelia Aveloaei Skikos moved to London where she further defined her fashion studies. While in London, she also worked as a fashion designer and illustrator for several major brands. In 2003 Camelia moved to San Francisco where she accepted a position as a head designer at Levi Strauss. Since then, she has also worked as a freelance fashion illustrator and designer for various labels such as Gap. Currently Camelia is designing for her own label and teaching Fashion Design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. 


Mostly in black and white with accents of red, Camelia’s Spring Summer 2010 collection investigates the possible ways of rendering the concept of duality. From strict cuts and sculptural shapes to soft and draped, using contrasting fabrics like silk and leather, soft and hard, shiny and matte, this collection is dedicated to capturing a woman’s duality, whether it is sensual and mysterious or strong and feminine. The detachable leather pieces offer the illusion of strength and lend the wearer a sense of versatility. With sharp and strong silhouettes for Spring Summer 2010, Camelia draws her inspiration from the principles and complexities of Calder’s mobile sculptures and the negative space explored within Brancusi’s sculptures. Her technique involves using geometric shapes in a dialogue with the human body. The result creates a multidimensional effect of innovation, dynamism and a sophisticated sense of femininity with an edge. All garments are made in California.
